  • Angelica Alvarez - Director District 2

    Angelica Alvarez represents District 2 on the Highline School Board. She was originally elected in November of 2009. Angelica lives in Burien and is a strong advocate for all children. Born and raised in San Luis, Arizona to migrant field workers, Angelica has traveled and worked in the fields alongside her family most of her life. Following high school graduation, Angelica began working in social services and education.

  • Joe Van - Director District 3

    Joe Van is a 1995 graduate of Tyee High School and holds an AA in Administration of Justice from Highline Community College. He is employed as a supervisor at Owens & Minor medical supply distribution center in Sumner. Joe serves on the City of SeaTac Human Services Advisory Committee and is active in a number of civic activities. He speaks fluent Vietnamese. Joe and his wife Leslee, also a Tyee graduate, have three children attending McMicken Heights Elementary.

  • Bernie Dorsey - Director District 4 (President)

    Bernie Dorsey was the founder of the Conscious Fathering Program, a hospital based class that teaches prenatal and childhood involvement skills to thousands of fathers throughout the nation. In 2005 he was a co-creator of Washington’s “Keep Kids Safe” vehicle license plate which funds prevention and safety programs within Washington State.

  • Michael D. Spear - Director District 5 (Vice President)

    Michael Spear represents District 5 and is a 20 year resident of the Des Moines area. He is a graduate of University of Washington with a degree in Political Science and Social Justice and teaches computer science at the college level. Outside of his participation with the board, he works with, and advocates for, at-risk and homeless youth with Friends of Youth and the YWCA of Seattle.
