January 2017

A message from our principal, Ms. Diana Garcia, Principal

Dear Pacific Families,

Happy New Year! As we kick off 2017 at Pacific Middle School we are fast approaching the end of the first semester and preparing students for second semester classes, spring sports, celebrations, concerts, and more.

Teachers are offering students opportunities to make-up assignments and re-take tests in an effort to ensure students get credit for standards they have mastered. At semester’s end, some students may receive an IP (in progress) grade. If that’s the case, students will have five weeks to convert the IP to a letter grade.  The five weeks are an opportunity for students to complete required assignments and retake tests. If work isn’t completed, students run the risk of earning a failing grade.  Please work with your student and teachers to ensure a strong finish to the semester.

I am inviting parents\guardians to visit classrooms with me in order to see the work students are engaged in and to better understand what our program is like. Twice a month beginning January 31, parents may join me in a “learning walk” to visit up to six classrooms for short observations. This will be followed by a group discussion about what was observed and time to ask questions about Pacific’s instructional models and methods. The first Learning walk is scheduled for January 31 starting at 8:30. In order to minimize disruption to our classes, the group will be limited to seven participants.  Please contact office manager, Lindsay Mora to reserve your space. Dates for future learning walks will be posted on the school’s web page in the coming week.

As always, please contact me if you have questions or concerns.  However, if your questions or concerns are regarding your child’s grades or assignments, please contact the teacher first. I’m happy to help, if needed.

Thank you all for your support of your child’s middle school years. These are not easy times for many middle school students. These middle school years demand our love, patience, and understanding.
In partnership,

Diana Garcia

  • The Meaning of L-O-V-E

What does the word love mean? The world's greatest poets, authors, musicians, teachers, and philosophers have struggled with that question for centuries. For Valentine's Day, we asked the smartest and most thoughtful people we know-- our students.

  • Learn About School Schedule Decisions

Making a decision about weather-related school closures is always difficult, because so many different situations have to be considered. We do our very best to balance the many interests at stake, but we recognize that no matter what decision we make, it will not please everyone.
