Learning Together (Academic Programs):
  • Reading – Balanced literacy approach including:
    • Core comprehension lessons
    • Independent reading to practice skills
    • Daily guided reading/intervention groups based on student reading levels
  • Writing – Focus on nonfiction
  • Math –
    • New core Math in Focus (Singapore Math) program (3-4)
    • Singapore bar model drawing problem solving approach
    • Individualized math practice in the computer lab twice a week:
      • Dreambox Learning (K-2)
      • STMath (3-4)
      • Math Whizz (5-6)
      • Xtramath (1-6) for fact practice
    • Math interventions twice a week based on student need
  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program
    • 2 classrooms (1 PreK-Primary, 1 Primary-Intermediate)
    • Instruction in American Sign Language (ASL)
    • General education opportunities for students with 2 full-time interpreters on staff
  • Resource Room – Additional intervention opportunities in reading, writing, and math for students in need
Working Together (Positive Behavior):
  • NOBLEs (Noteworthy Outstanding Bow Lake Effort) – Positive tickets recognizing individual and class behaviors
  • NOBLEs Assemblies – Monthly assemblies where we perform and celebrate successes from the previous month
  • Character trait/skill of the month – 2 students from each class recognized for positive behaviors and award lunch with the principals
  • 3 tiered behavior system to support all students with making positive choices
  • Check, Connect and Expect and Room of Alternative Recess (ROAR) interventions to support at-risk students
Growing Together (Partnerships) – Bow Lake maintains strong partnerships with the following organizations:
  • School-based Partnerships: Bow Lake PTA, Bow Lake Latino Parent Group, Community Schools
  • Community Partnerships: The Doubletree Seattle Airport Hotel, Microsoft, Angle Lake Neighborhood Church, SeaTac Rotary
On the Pathway to Success (Results):
  • 87% of 6th graders at standard in math computation (AIMSWeb)
  • 95% of students with 0-1 office discipline referrals
  • Exemplary PBIS School for three years
