April 20, 2012 Science Fair

Zahra holds up an egg wtih the shell dissolved.
5th graders and other Bow Lake scientists shared the results from the experiments they have been working on the past few months. They went through the Scientific Method by coming up with a hypothesis, creating an experiment to test it, collecting and analyzing their results, using the results to form a conclusion, and then communicating their findings.
Students proudly spoke about their work while adults moved through the exhibits asking questions. Onlookers added dimes to milk cartons next to student displays to raise funds for projector bulbs while PTA sold baked goods to raise additional money. The brainchild of 5th grade teacher Tracey Drum, Bow Lake's Science Fair is in its third year.
April 19, 2012 2nd Grade International Food Festival

2nd graders enjoying foods from around the world.
This afternoon students, parents, and staff enjoyed a feast of foods prepared by their families. Foods originated from cultures all over the world. Everyone had the opportunity to walk around and sample the different selections. Some of my favorites were the injera (Ethiopian bread) and tamales.
Hanging on the wall were projects the students created as a result of their research of different countries. Projects ranged from posters to brochures. Thank you to all the families and students who made this event such a success. Additional thanks to 2nd grade teachers Ms. Krippaehne, Ms. Battles, Mr. Deisler, and Ms. Neale.
