Depending on what you are interested in studying in college you should consider taking more advanced courses. Definitely consult the specific college web sites to find out about extra entrance requirements for specific programs.
College admission offices consider the following when deciding on whether a student is accepted to their institution:
· GPA (and grade trends)
· SAT/ACT scores
· Personal Statement
· Community involvement
They take a holistic approach in deciding if a student is the right fit on their campus. Being a well-rounded student is important in the college admission process.
COMMUNITY COLLEGES
They require students to have a high school diploma or the equivalent to attend. They offer a variety of programs. Students are able to receive certificates in particular programs, Associate arts in Science (AAS), Associate Arts (AA) Transfer degree. It is important for students to consider what they want once they have completed a program. If they intend to transfer they need to make sure they are taking the right courses that will transfer to their chosen University.
FINANCIAL AID
There are 4 types of Financial Aid:
· Grants/Scholarships (doesn’t need to be paid back)
o Grants include Pell, TEACH & State need Grant
o Scholarships are offered by private organizations, Universities, Companies and more
· Work Study (work on campus and get paid)
· Government loans (must be paid back)
o Perkins loan
o Subsidized & unsubsidized Stafford Loan
o Direct Parent PLUS loan
Financial aid is determined for the most part when student complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The Evergreen College & Career Center is available to assist student s and their families understand and complete their Financial Aid.
