Highline’s student population is growing and elementary schools are at or exceeding capacity. We have no room to reduce class sizes, even though the state is offering additional funding for smaller classes in grades K-3 next year. We also have aging buildings that must be replaced or undergo major renovations. All but one of our middle and high schools are over 50 years old and in need of replacement or major renovation. As the buildings age, repairs and maintenance are becoming more and more expensive, draining money away from the classroom. Aging infrastructure also prevents us from installing educational technology.
We are working on a solution
but want the community's feedback as we accommodate enrollment growth and address conditions in our aging school buildings.
We are hosting three community meetings to gather input from the community. Please join us, hear details about possible solutions and share your thoughts.
These meetings are:
Pacific Middle School
22705 24th Place South
Des Moines, WA 98198
In addition to these community meetings, we also invite you to participate in an online survey through the Your Voice
section of our website.
