  • Greetings!

    It is my pleasure to serve as the principal at Gregory Heights and get to know our students and families. Many families have been part of this school for three or four generations. This is a friendly and welcoming community! Our students are rich in diversity with many students from countries around the world. At Gregory Heights, we work to build relationships with each child and their family, so that we know and understand every student by their name, strength, and need.

    We ensure our students’ success through:

    Equitable access to rigorous, standards-based instruction
    Our teachers work together in grade level and cross grade teams to align learning to the Washington State Learning Standards and ensure there is equitable access and continuous improvement for every student. We have high expectations for all kids and support their learning through a variety of curriculum, content, and personalized online resources like:

      • Think Through Math
      • ST Math
      • NewsELA
      • Discovery Learning
    Developing a culturally responsive organization
    Each child has a rich cultural and family heritage. We view this diversity as a strength and an asset. We strive to create a culture of learning that builds on individual student interests, strengths, and learning needs. In the 2017-18 school year, we will be working to build a continuum of learning groupings called a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). We will review academic, and behavior, and attendance data about our children frequently so we can tailor their learning, help them reach the grade level expectations or challenge and enrich their learning if they have already the grade level expectation.
    Helping each child Recognize, Understand, Label, Express and Regulate (RULER) their individual feelings and emotions is also important. The RULER model for social-emotional learning includes a class charter, mood meter, meta-moment and blueprint. Be sure to join us at any or all of the three evening family events in the 2017-18 school year that will introduce these processes to families to use as tools at home as well as at school.

    Strong Partnerships with families and the community

    We have a very active Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) who sponsors many wonderful opportunities for our children. Thanks to our PTSA, over sixty-two thousand dollars was raised to install new equipment of our playground in July 2017. A school fall carnival, art docents in all classrooms, a family winter dance, Field Day, and Field Trips, are also sponsored by our PTSA along with after school clubs and programs like:
      • Girls on the Run
      • LEGO/Robotics after school club
      • Art after school club
      • School of Rock (jazz ensemble)
      • Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)

    We have many strong partnerships with community organizations:
      • Arts Corps partnership
      • Discovery Learning
      • WISE Consortium (Science partnership with Museum of Flight)
      • The Seattle Opera (who helped our second graders create and perform their own operas this past school year)
    Results Focused Professional Learning for our staff helps fine tune their teaching strategies to results in strong and relational student learning

    Gregory Heights is one of four Highline elementary schools engaged in the Digital Leadership Corp. Through this partnership with Discovery Education, our teachers are learning how to use technology to transform and personalize learning for students.
    Our teachers and classified staff will continue to engage in training through the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) model. PBIS helps us teach our students the behaviors that support learning and good citizenship. We also have incentives for behavior and this year will add incentives for attendance and arriving at school on time.

    We are in the process of redesigning our website. Our new site will be easier to navigate, accessible to users with disabilities and will require less staff time to create and manage content. We now need your feedback to figure out what you need and expect from the new Highline website.

    What if the entire community rallied around our promise to know every student by name, strength and need and our goal for every student to graduate prepared for the future they choose? Our updated strategic plan points the way.

  • Highline Levy Passing

    It appears our levy measure will pass, with early results showing more than 58% voting in favor of renewal. “I am grateful to voters for their support of our students and schools. Local funding for our schools is critical,” said Superintendent Susan Enfield.
