Do you know a child who will be five years old on or before August 31? If so, now's the time to register for kindergarten. The first 500 families to register will receive two free tickets to the Woodland Park Zoo!
We want to shout out a huge "thank you" to our amazing Highline community members who voted to approve the school bond. Thank you, voters! Passing the bond means our district will be able to provide safer schools and room to learn. See the detailed list of projects and next steps.

Dear Madrona Students and Families,
It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new principal of Madrona Elementary. I am honored to lead a school with such dedication and commitment to providing our students the best elementary educational experience possible.
During these past few weeks, I have had the pleasure to meet with and learn from Madrona staff members about our school. From these conversations, it is clear there is great enthusiasm in strengthening the partnership between members of the Madrona community in order to provide the best possible school experience for our students. I look forward to continuing the work of fostering these relationships with each of you. Through this partnership, I am confident we will achieve our greatest goal of providing a positive and thriving educational experience for all our students AND their families!
The 2016-2017 school year marks my 11th year in education. I am very proud to say that in 2005, I began my career in education right here at Madrona as a 4th grade teacher! During my five years teaching at Madrona, I developed a deep passion for providing an engaging and inspiring experience for all students. I learned the importance of developing trusting relationships with all stakeholders and working together to see each student grow and be successful. Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue strengthening relationships with each of you in order to see our students excel.
I return to Madrona after serving three years as Assistant Principal at our neighboring school, Midway Elementary. During my time there, I developed an even greater passion for educational leadership and dynamic teaching. I am eager to work alongside teachers to ensure Madrona students have fun while receiving powerful instruction centered on Common Core Standards and learning to be a contributing member of society.
As your Principal, it is important that each student, staff member, and parent feel welcomed and part of the Madrona community. Please feel free to reach out to me to share any comments, suggestions or ideas on how we can make this our best year yet!
We recognize that actions taken by the White House, including a new executive order restricting immigration and orders to increase immigration enforcement, are unsettling to many of our families. We want to reiterate our commitment to our students’ safety. We will do everything in our power to keep our students safe at school.
What does the word love mean? The world's greatest poets, authors, musicians, teachers, and philosophers have struggled with that question for centuries. For Valentine's Day, we asked the smartest and most thoughtful people we know-- our students.
Making a decision about weather-related school closures is always difficult, because so many different situations have to be considered. We do our very best to balance the many interests at stake, but we recognize that no matter what decision we make, it will not please everyone.
