Doug Neufeld Welcome to Bow Lake Elementary School.

Bow Lake Elementary is located in SeaTac and is part of Highline Public Schools. We are a diverse school with approximately 740 students in preschool through sixth grade. We house a regional elementary Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program, added a new Integrated Learning Center (ILC) Program in 2015-16, and around one third of our students are English language learners.

Bow Lake is known for our strong focus on academics and student success, our positive behavior results, and our DHH program, which draws from Highline and the surrounding districts. We maintain close partnerships with our school-based Parent-Teacher Organization, and the City of SeaTac, which runs our before and after-school programming. Our vital, community-based partnerships include: The Doubletree Seattle Airport Hotel, Techbridge, Somali Youth and Family Services, and the City of SeaTac.

The good work being done at Bow Lake has had a huge impact on our student achievement. Our Fountas and Pinnell reading benchmark results continue to climb, particularly in kindergarten and fourths grades, which both exceeded 80% proficiency this year. Additionally, we are achieving good results with our fifth and sixth graders, with 77% of our sixth graders at mastery on the Spring Mathematics Highline Benchmark Assessment.  We have also had success with our English language learners. Last year, based on our English Language Proficiency Assessment results, we exited more students from ELL services than in previous years. Additionally, our students continue to exhibit positive behaviors with a significant reduction in our behavior referrals from 749 in 2014-15 to less than 450 in 2015-16.

Our school mission is "As a diverse learning community, we hold ourselves accountable to prepare all students for college, career, and citizenship by providing a nurturing environment where our scholars are held to high standards of success." As our mission statement says, the Bow Lake staff is committed to providing an excellent education to our students to get them ready for the future. We tailor our instruction to fit the needs of each child and provide help and support to students when necessary while at the same time challenging students to deeper understanding and higher achievement.

We invite our families and community to join with us in providing the best education possible for our students. If you would like to help volunteer in the school or on field trips, please stop by our office and complete a volunteer form. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office by phone at 206.631-3500. You may also reach me via email at Douglas.Neufeld@highlineschools.org.
