It is the policy of Highline Public Schools to ensure that each student graduates with a meaningful diploma and is prepared for the future they have chosen. Beginning with the graduating class of 2020, students must meet one or more of the state-identified pathways, in addition to other graduation requirements, to graduate from high school.
Each student’s high school and beyond plan (HSBP) must include information about which pathway a student is on, recognizing that this pathway may change based on a student’s academic needs and interests. See procedure 2400 P3 for information on the HSBP.
To support student success, the district will permit each of the nine state-authorized “graduation pathways”. This will allow students and families to pick the pathway that best meets a student’s needs and interests. The nine pathways are:
- State Assessments
- Dual Credit Courses
- High School Transition Courses
- Advanced Coursework
- SAT or ACT Exams
- Combination
- ASVAB
- Career & Technical Education Courses
- Performance-Based
At least annually, the district will examine data on student groups participating in and completing each graduation pathway option offered by the school district according to RCW 28A.655.260.
The Superintendent is authorized to develop procedures to implement this policy.
