It is the policy of this district that District staff conduct only reasonable searches of individuals. Reasonableness generally requires that there be a warrant issued upon probable cause for any search except a warrantless search may be conducted when the district's interest involved outweighs the intrusion imposed by a search. Administrators may make a warrantless search of an individual's person when the administration has reasonable grounds to believe the search is necessary for the maintenance of school discipline and order. Factors to be considered in determining whether such reasonable grounds exist include but are not limited to the individual's age, history, and school record; the prevalence and seriousness of the problem to which the search is directed; the need to search without delay; and the probative value and reliability of the information on which the search is based.
A reasonable effort shall be made to notify the student's parent or guardian of the search.
