Prior to sending a student to his/her home for illness, discipline or a corrective action, the principal or designee shall attempt to reach the student's parent/guardian to inform him/her of the school's action and to request that he/she come to the school for the student. If the principal or designee cannot reach the parent/guardian, the student shall remain at school until the close of the school day. A student may be released to a law enforcement officer in accordance with policy 4411 (Relations with Fire, Law Enforcement and Child Protective Agencies).
Sending elementary students on errands or using elementary student volunteers to provide a service to the schools especially during instructional hours is discouraged. Therefore, no elementary student will be used for such purpose more than a sum total of ten hours in any school year. This will include the time spent assisting in the school lunch program.
