All educational staff members will be appointed by the board only upon recommendation of the superintendent. Should a person nominated by the superintendent be rejected by the board, it would be the superintendent's responsibility to submit another nomination.
The superintendent will assure that all persons nominated for employment meet certification requirements and the qualifications established for the particular position.
Interviewing and selection procedures will assure that the administrator directly responsible for the work of the staff member has, to the extent possible, an opportunity to participate in the selection. However, the final selection for recommendation to the board will be made by the superintendent.
When submitting a nominee for an administrative/supervisory position to the board, the superintendent will provide detailed information from the interview and screening committee of the qualifications of the candidates interviewed by the committee. The committee will also include rationale to support candidates sent to the superintendent for final interview. Upon final selection, the superintendent will share with the school board the rationale supporting his recommendation for hiring.
This process will apply to assistant superintendents, principals, and directors who have other directors reporting to them but will not apply to current administrators who are transferring to other administrative positions.
