Recognizing that students take initiative to engage in significant self-directed study outside of school, the following process will be available to earn credit.
When a student declares an interest in receiving credit for study outside, they can apply through a form that will include the following:
- The program or course name
- Subject (content area) credit requested
- Credit amount requested
- Key learning outcomes, standards, and competencies to be learned
- Assessment criteria for the course
- The organizations sponsoring the study, with contact information
- The intended start and completion date of the study
- A description of how the study supports students’ high school and beyond plan
Forms will be reviewed regularly by school staff, who will assist applicants as needed. Once approved, a timeline will be set for the duration of when the activity may generate credit. Forms will not be considered for learning experiences in-progress.
Students may earn up to a total of two credits through this method, earning a grade of “P” for awarded credit.
