The district shall not make reimbursement for loss or damage to a staff member's personal equipment or material brought to school unless it is essential to the instructional program. In order for personal property to be insured, the following guidelines will apply.
1. The staff member must submit a written request to the superintendent/designee at least seven (7) working days prior to the planned use of the item(s) to be insured. The request should include a description of the property: specific classroom use of the property; how the property relates to, and improves, instruction; and the length of time the property will be on the school campus.
2. The superintendent/designee will approve, in writing, to the staff member the use of personal property in order for the district to assume liability for such property. The approval shall identify the property to be covered and the dates of the coverage.
3. The staff member is responsible for taking reasonable security measures to safeguard personal property while it is on district premises.
District insurance shall be secondary to the staff member's personal insurance policy. District coverage includes a deductible amount of $30.00 per claim and a limitation of five hundred and no/100 ($500.00) dollars per claim. Clothing, automobiles and other such items which have utility outside the classroom are not covered.
