Our commitment to innovative learning means providing academic experiences that engage, empower, and challenge every student. That’s why Highline is proud to offer 10 Schools and Programs of Choice. 

Through hands-on learning and career-focused pathways, our Schools and Programs of Choice empower students to explore their passions and opt for learning communities that work for them. Whether it's exploring technology, healthcare, or internships, these programs are designed to give students the tools they need to thrive in the future they choose.

Big Picture

At Big Picture, passions drive a student’s education. Students connect classroom learning to real-world experiences through hands-on projects, internships and apprenticeships. This personalized approach helps students discover their strengths, develop confidence and prepare for meaningful careers and lives.

Health Sciences Program at Tyee High School 

The new Tyee High School health sciences program, launching in 2025-26, provides foundational courses and specialized pathways such as nursing, physical therapy and radiology. With hands-on experiences, industry certifications, and college credit opportunities, students gain a strong start toward high-wage medical careers.

"We are so excited to launch the new Tyee Health Professional Pathway for our students. This pathway will allow our students to explore the progressive world of healthcare and all it has to offer," shared Tyee Principal Victoria Terry. "It will also open doors for high-wage careers for students as they make meaningful contributions to our community. Something they deserve to be part of."  

Maritime High School

Maritime High School combines marine science, environmental studies, and maritime careers, offering boat-based experiences, internships and industry partnerships. Students graduate ready to make waves in the maritime industry or pursue secondary education.

International Baccalaureate® (IB) Programme at Mount Rainier High School

The IB Programme at Mount Rainier High School (MRHS), develops compassionate critical thinkers. Through rigorous academics and a focus on values and understanding the world, students grow into leaders ready to make a difference.

“Our teachers model a love for learning, inspiring student to become lifelong learners who see knowledge and growth throughout their lives," shares MRHS Principal Kyle Linman. "The dedicated teachers and staff at MRHS are instrumental in shaping the leaders and changemakers of tomorrow.”

CHOICE Academy

CHOICE Academy offers a welcoming environment with small class sizes, flexible schedules, and strong family partnerships. CHOICE helps students build confidence, achieve academic excellence, and develop life skills for the future they choose.

Highline Virtual Academy

Highline Virtual Academy (HVA) provides a personalized online learning experience blending live instruction with self-paced learning. The academy fosters academic excellence, independence and social-emotional growth.

“At Highline Virtual Academy, we know learning is a journey that’s unique for every student," shared HVA Principal Amy Carlson. "We're fostering a culture where students take the lead in their learning while we support them every step of the way.”

Puget Sound Skills Center (PSSC)

At PSSC, students gain hands-on training in 19 career and technical programs like aerospace manufacturing, dental assisting, and culinary arts. With industry certifications, college credits, and strong partnerships, PSSC prepares students for in-demand careers and higher education.

Raisbeck Aviation High School (RAHS)

RAHS is a top STEM school in Washington. Offering project-based learning and strong industry connections, Raisbeck equips students with the skills and knowledge to lead in the aviation and aerospace industries.

“I’ve signed up for internships with Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. This school helps me learn skills like networking and communications to prepare me for the future,” shares Brent Taitano, 12th-grade student.

Innovation Heights Academy

At Innovation Heights Academy, students practice self-discovery, the habits of life balance, and accelerate progress toward their individual post-secondary goals. This is a community where students are seen, valued, and supported to reach their full potential.

The Virtual Program at Seahurst Elementary School

For younger learners, the Virtual Program at Seahurst combines live instruction and independent learning to nurture confidence and curiosity. Offering a comprehensive curriculum the program ensures students feel supported and inspired to succeed.

"At the heart of our virtual program are the relationships with our students, families, and one another," shared Seahurst Principal Elizabeth Main. "By combining personalized learning with knowledge of individual student needs and strong support systems, we’re not just teaching academic skills, but also preparing our students to be resilient and adaptable thinkers in the digital world.”
