Hello Families,
As we look ahead to the winter break, I want to send a clear message in support of our students and families. At Highline Public Schools, we are deeply committed to ensuring all students and families are welcome, valued, and safe. We stand firmly with our students, especially those who are immigrants and refugees, and are dedicated to protecting their rights and dignity.
Every child has the right to a free public education, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. This is not only protected by law but is also a core value we fiercely uphold.
Policy 4300 requires us to follow strict guidelines that limit immigration enforcement in our schools. Federal immigration authorities are not permitted to access our schools, and we protect the privacy of all students and their families, including their citizenship status, as required by law.
We actively reject hate, bias and discrimination in all its forms. Discrimination or mistreatment based on real or perceived citizenship status has no place in Highline.
Our staff and volunteers are held to these values, ensuring our schools remain places where every student is welcome, valued and safe.
Should you need it, we have a robust family-facing webpage with immigrant and refugee resources.
Thank you for seeing yourself in every human being and offering dignity to everyone. Together, we will continue to build a school community where every student is known by name, strength and need.
Enjoy the Winter Break and I will see you in 2025.
Building on the Promise,
Ivan Duran, Ed.D.
