Recently, there has been a rise in incidents of hate and violence targeting people who identify as LGBTQ across the country. We are also seeing an uptick in resistance to activities that acknowledge or affirm members of the LGBTQ community and their struggle for civil and human rights.
These actions run counter to Highline Public Schools’ commitment to equity, as stated in our policy on Equity, Race and Identity. As a school system, we have a responsibility to protect and support all students and staff. We stand with the members of our LGBTQ community during this time of increased intolerance and hate, and we remain committed to our pledge to disrupt institutional biases and end inequitable practices so all students have an equal chance at success.
