CFAC Gets Back to Planning & Welcomes New Members

CFAC Gets Back to Planning & Welcomes New Members

A new year of planning for future school building and facility needs kicks off Wednesday, October 10. Our community-led Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) gathers returning members and welcomes new lottery and appointed members.

Community members from every high school service area in Highline Public Schools are charged with recommending a long-range capital facilities plan to the school board. This school construction and facilities plan will guide future school bonds.

CFAC meetings are open to the public. You are welcome to attend and listen. A public comment period is included near the end of the meeting.

Staff drew names September 27 from the public lottery for six open seats on the committee. CFAC lottery entries increased from 49 in 2017 to 85 this year. Names were drawn in groups by the four main geographic service areas in the school district, based on new fall 2019 school boundaries.

Committee leaders added a handful of community service organizations to increase the diversity of CFAC membership and bring more voices to the table. Existing members were invited to return for another year of work. Returning members include some selected by lottery in 2015 and 2017, as well as new and returning appointees from local jurisdictions, school labor unions and the Highline Council PTA.
