CFAC Starts Journey to Next Bond

CFAC Starts Journey to Next Bond

Our community-led Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) meeting on October 25 was well attended by energized new and returning members.

This year CFAC members will continue work on Community Recommendations for Future Facilities, including review of the living priority list of facilities built prior to 2000, as drafted by CFAC in 2022-23.

One of the co-chair positions was up for re-election. Omaha Sternberg was re-elected for another two years. Student co-chair Jamylet Perez, a senior at Big Picture High School, assisted in leading the meeting.

CFAC members learned about progress on the 2022 bond projects, the new strategic plan and efforts to improve secondary schools.

They meet again in April to hear updated enrollment numbers and projections, plus an initial estimate of tax rate capacity. They will use that information to develop a timeline and recommendation for Highline’s next bond.

Ellie Daneshnia, executive director of Highline's Capital Planning & Construction team, requested that CFAC have a draft bond package recommendation ready by fall 2025, to leave time for cost estimating and revising, if CFAC's goal is to recommend a potential bond package to the school board for consideration in 2026.
