Helmet Safety This May: Bike to School and Work Month
May is National Bike to School and Work Month. As you hop on your bicycles, please remember the importance of wearing helmets. According to a study by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, bicycle helmets reduce head injury by 48% and serious head injury by 60%.
Choosing the Right Helmet
Ensure the helmet fits snugly and sits level on your head. It should not rock forward, backward, or side to side. Look for helmets with a CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) sticker.
Tips for Parents and Caregivers
- Wear a helmet yourself. Children are more likely to wear helmets if their family members do.
- Children grow fast, and their helmets need to be adjusted or replaced as they grow.
