Do you know a high school student interested in strengthening their leadership skills and exploring career pathways in education, teaching, counseling or environmental science? Waskowitz is seeking Highline students to serve as high school leaders in May.
As a high school leader, students will work with fifth-grade students as they attend overnight outdoor school at Waskowitz Outdoor Education Center. The high school leaders will serve as cabin counselors, teacher's assistants, hike leaders, table leaders and an overall role models.
High school students gain confidence and new perspectives and apply life skills in a real-world leadership experience. Students who complete a full program can earn .5 elective credits.
Waskowitz has an urgent need for male high school leaders for the following programs. Each program lasts three days and two nights. Students have the option to stay for five days and lead two programs in one week.
- Program 7: April 29-May 1 (Bow Lake and Midway)
- Program 8: May 1-3 (Gregory Heights and Parkside)
- Program 9: May 6-8 (Hilltop and North Hill)
- Program 10: May 8-10 (Madrona and McMicken)
- Program 11: May 13-15 (Cedarhurst and Des Moines)
- Program 12: May 15-17 (Beverly Park and White Center Heights)
- Program 13: May 20-22 (Mount View and Marvista)
- Program 14: May 22-24 (Seahurst (HVA), Shorewood, HVA Elementary)
Training is required for leaders to serve at Waskowitz. Due to an urgent need for leaders, Waskowitz is accepting recommendations from administrators and teachers in place of training.
Waskowitz staff will provide on-site training and leadership coaching during the program.
If you know a student who would benefit from this experience, please have them sign up using the online form. Once they fill out the form, Waskowitz staff will reach out with next steps.
