As Superintendent Duran shared with you directly on Wednesday, here is an update on the ransomware attack we experienced last fall. After a thorough forensic investigation and a labor-intensive review, we determined that certain files containing personal information were accessed by an unauthorized actor. The forensic investigation was conducted by a third-party expert and took several months to complete. Read about our response and steps you can take.
🌟 You’re Invited: Family University Workshops
Family University is an informational workshop designed to support families in navigating the public school system at both the state and district levels. Families will learn how to work with school staff, strengthen their connection with their child’s school, and find useful resources to stay involved. Register now for the April 15 session!

📣Give Your Input on Resource Allocations for our Big Priorities
In the fall, we enter the final year of our strategic plan. We want to hear from you. This year, we introduced four priority areas to guide our work and investments in alignment with our strategic plan. As we develop next year’s budget and plan for the next version of our strategic plan, we want your input on how we can build on this work and allocate resources for maximum impact. The deadline to give input has been extended to April 20.
🤝FLASH Resources
We hosted families for a Sexual Health Education Night on March 31 to share how we teach comprehensive sexual health education using the FLASH curriculum, which meets state requirements and is taught in grades 4–12. If you missed this event, you can view curriculum details and the slidedeck here.
📢 New Safety Plan Launches in 11 Days
Starting April 14, we’re implementing a new emergency response plan, the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). With five easy-to-understand actions — Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter — the SRP helps students, staff and families know the right steps to take in any situation.

April 22, 2025, is a special election date. Ballots must be turned in at drop boxes or postmarked by 8:00 p.m. April 22. Learn what is on King County ballots and register to vote.
📅 School Board Meeting Schedule
You are welcome to join the Highline School Board and superintendent at a school board meeting. All school board meetings are held at our central office, 15675 Ambaum Boulevard SW in Burien, typically every other Wednesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 16. All regular board business meetings, work sessions and public hearings are public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
