📅 You’re Invited: Family University Workshops  

Family University is an informational workshop designed to support families in navigating the public school system at both the state and district levels. Families will learn how to work with school staff, strengthen their connection with their child’s school, and find useful resources to stay involved. Register now for the March 18 session! 

📅  June 25 is the Last Day of School (Unless More Closures Occur) 

To make up for emergency closures—including a wind closure, a snow day and the cyber incident—the last day of school for the 2024-25 school year will be June 25 for K-12 students and June 24 for preschool students, unless additional closures occur. 

📢 Our Commitment to DEI 

Following the executive orders to eliminate DEI funding, Superintendent Ivan Duran reaffirmed our commitment to equity and inclusion. At last week’s board meeting, a resolution was introduced to reinforce our dedication to safe and welcoming schools for all. The board will take action on this resolution at its next meeting on Wednesday, March 5. 

📖 Black History Month Books & Films 

Looking to continue your learning beyond Black History Month? Our staff shared their favorite books and films that have deepened their understanding of the history, culture, and resilience of Black people. From powerful biographies to historical analyses and impactful films, these recommendations offer insight, education, and inspiration. 

📚 Sexual Health Education Info Night  

In Highline, we teach comprehensive sexual health education in alignment with state law and district policy.  FLASH (Family Life and Sexual Health) is our curriculum that meets state requirements for sexual health education, which is taught in grades 4-12. Families may opt out of any or all sexual health lessons. Learn more at our Sexual Health Education Night for Families on March 31 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Central Office. 

️🧠 Health Curriculum Pilot Reminder 

We are piloting the Goodheart Willcox Health curriculum in grades 6-12. Explore the curriculum online and share your feedback before March 7. 

🌲 Waskowitz Open House is March 16

📋Kindergarten Enrollment is Now Open 

Online enrollment is now open for new students entering grades K-12 in September. Do you know a child who will be five years old on or before August 31? Maybe it's your neighbor, family friend or even your own child. Now is the time to register for kindergarten.   

📅 School Board Meeting Schedule  

You are welcome to join the Highline School Board and superintendent at a school board meeting. All school board meetings are held at the Central Office, 15675 Ambaum Boulevard SW in Burien, typically every other Wednesday, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 5. All regular board business meetings, work sessions and public hearings are public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
