✨ Honoring Our Teachers, Sharing Their Stories

Highline Public Schools teachers do more than teach—they build trust, spark learning and help students believe in themselves. This week, Highline honors all educators—and shines a light on two award-winning teachers who show what’s possible when students are welcomed, valued and safe.

🎉 Five Highline Schools Honored for Growth and Achievement

Congratulations to CHOICE Academy, Gregory Heights Elementary, Midway Elementary, Raisbeck Aviation High School, and White Center Heights Elementary. These schools were recognized by the Washington School Recognition Program for strong performance in the 2023–24 school year. Only 16% of schools in Washington State received this honor. This reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and families.

📝 Family Engagement Survey Now Open

We want to hear from you! Please take 10 to 20 minutes to complete our Family Engagement Survey, open now through May 30. Take the survey now.

⚠️ Device Safety and Student Responsibility

We are aware of a social media trend that encourages students to intentionally damage their school-issued devices. We encourage students not to participate in the trend and report concerning behavior to a trusted adult.

📖 Family University is Next Week

Family University is a free evening workshop for families of PreK–12 students to better understand how the public school system works and how to support their child’s success. Families will hear from school staff, learn about their rights and responsibilities, and walk away with tools to build stronger relationships with their child’s school. The event will be held Tuesday, May 13 from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. at the Mount Rainier High School Library. Register now for the May 13 session!

🚌Save the Date: Welcome to Kindergarten Event

Kindergarten is just around the corner! Join us for a fun and informative Welcome to Kindergarten event on Saturday, May 31 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Puget Sound Skills Center. Explore school readiness, meals, transportation, dual language programs and more. Plus, join breakout sessions on kindergarten readiness, special education and inclusion.

Bonus fun for kids: Kids can climb aboard for a fun school bus ride experience—perfect for first-time riders!

🎉 Last Day of School 2025

The last day of school is June 25 for K-11, June 24 for preschool and June 17 for high school seniors. Seniors should check in with their counselor for check-out information.

🥗 Federal Cuts Affect Highline's Local & Fresh School Meals

McMicken Heights students enjoyed farm-fresh asparagus and Cosmic Crisp apples during a visit from Eastern Washington farmer Mark Rowley. His visit coincided with news that the federal administration cut USDA funding for the Local Food for Schools program — funding that helped Highline purchase local foods like cherries, salmon and berries for school meals.

🖥️ Notice of Data Security Event

Be sure your personal information is protected. In response to the cyber incident this fall, Highline is offering credit monitoring and identity protection services for 12 months through IDX at no cost to you.

📅 School Board Meeting Schedule

You are welcome to join the Highline School Board and superintendent at a school board meeting. All school board meetings are held at the Central Office, 15675 Ambaum Boulevard SW in Burien, typically every other Wednesday, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 21. All regular board business meetings, work sessions and public hearings are public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
