📉 Budget Planning Begins for 2026–27 to Address State Underfunding 

We are beginning early planning for an estimated $8 million budget reduction in the 2026–27 school year. In a message to staff this week, Superintendent Duran shared that while enrollment is steady and the district remains financially stable today, state and federal funding continue to fall short of covering rising costs. 

📫Ballots Are Here 

King County Elections mailed ballots to registered voters last week. Ballots can be returned by mail (no stamp needed) or placed in an official ballot drop box. 

🎓 Future Ready Fest Brings Students, Families and Futures Together 

Hundreds of students and families joined us for Future Ready Fest to explore college, career, and training options after high school. From hands-on workshops to one-on-one support with applications and financial aid, the event helped students take the next step toward their goals. Deciding when a child is too sick to go to school can be a difficult decision to make. When trying to decide, these guidelines can help. This information is generalized only—talk with your child’s doctor if there are concerns regarding specific care or if symptoms persist.

This only takes a few minutes, and it makes a big difference for your child. Each year, families must verify student emergency contact information and submit updated health information. This helps us keep students safe while at school and is essential for schools to notify you quickly. Here’s how to make your updates

📅 School Board Meeting Schedule  

You are welcome to join the Highline School Board and superintendent at a school board meeting. All school board meetings are held at the Central Office, 15675 Ambaum Boulevard SW in Burien, typically every other Wednesday, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 12. All regular board business meetings, work sessions and public hearings are public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
