Construction Update: Tyee High School

Crews are focused on finishing details as the new Tyee campus gets ready for school in September.

The bleachers in the main gym spell out "TYEE," and silver letters spelling out "Tyee High School" are now installed at the main entrance facing South 188th Street. The wood and wood-toned paneling for the walls and ceiling of the performance space create a warm ambiance. The kitchen equipment has arrived!

A number of examples of repurposing wood from the original Tyee are appearing. In addition to the original glu-lam wood beams forming the roof deck of the new library space, the original beams are being repurposed in chunky wood benches and seating. Sections of the old gym floors, still bearing colorful floor stripes, have been transformed into decorative wall paneling and built-in seating.

Work continues in the field north of the new school building, to prepare the surface layers to specific site drainage specifications. Later the field will be completed with synthetic turf and a new track.

On Time, On Schedule

The Tyee High School replacement project, funded with the voter-approved 2022 bond, is on schedule to open school in September, and within budget.
