Rethinking Secondary School Experiences

Rethinking Secondary School Experiences

We are preparing students for a world that is very different from the one we entered as young adults. Think about how much has changed in the ways we work, communicate, and access information. If we are going to truly prepare our students for their future, schools also need to evolve.

This year our middle and high schools are engaging in a process to think critically about how we will make progress toward our new strategic plan goals:

  • Culture of Belonging: A culture where all are welcome, valued, and safe.
  • Innovative Learning: Academic experiences that engage, empower, and challenge every student.
  • Bilingual & Biliterate: Multicultural skills that enable students to live, work, and communicate across cultures.
  • Future Ready: Students explore possibilities and develop mindsets that prepare them for a changing future.

This process will center the voices of our students, families and school communities. We will have opportunities to listen to students and families to hear their perspectives about what school could and should be so that all students are successful.

Leaders in our comprehensive (aka neighborhood) secondary schools have begun interviewing students to learn their ideas. Schools will be sharing opportunities for family input in the coming weeks and months. The process will culminate in a showcase of ideas this winter.

Stay tuned for more information.
