School Board Elects New Leadership

School Board Elects New Leadership

The Highline School Board has new leaders. During the December 4 board meeting, the board elected Joe Van as the new board president, and Stephanie Tidholm was elected as the new board vice president.

Director Van, who has served on the board since 2015, represents District 3. He most recently served as vice president and has previously held the position of board president.

“Serving as president means guiding the board in making thoughtful, student-centered decisions, supporting our educators, and partnering with families to build a district where every student can thrive,” said Director Van. “This position is not just about leadership—it’s about service. It’s about working together to uphold Highline’s Promise, strengthen our schools, and create opportunities that empower all students to reach their full potential. Serving as school board president is an honor and a responsibility I embrace with dedication and a heart for this community.”

Director Tidholm, who joined the board in 2023, represents District 1. This is her first leadership role on the board after being elected as vice president at the December 4 meeting.

“It has been an honor to serve as board president and work alongside directors who prioritize our students’ success and uphold the values of the Highline Promise. I am proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” said outgoing Board President Angelica Alvarez. “As I transition out of this role, I am excited to continue supporting the new leadership and their vision for equity and excellence for every student and family in our community.”

Directors Van and Tidholm will officially begin their new officer roles during the December 18 board meeting.
