School Board Resignation

School Board Resignation
School Board Directors Azeb Hagos and Melissa Petrini

At the January 22 School Board meeting, President Joe Van announced Azeb Hagos’ resignation from the board, effective immediately. Melissa Petrini also announced her resignation from the board during the meeting, effective immediately.

"I want to thank Director Hagos and Director Petrini for their service on the school board and wish them the best moving forward,” said President Van.

Ms. Hagos’ resignation leaves the board position representing District 5 open and Ms. Petrini’s resignation leaves the board position representing District 4 open. The board will begin a process to appoint new directors for District 5 and District 4 to serve until the directors elected in the November 2025 election take their oath.

“If you live in District 4 or District 5 and are interested in the position, we will be publicly sharing more information soon about the process for filing the vacancy pursuant to Policy and Procedure 1114,” said President Van.

District 4 represents the communities of Normandy Park and portions of the North Hill neighborhood and City of SeaTac. District 5 represents the southernmost portion of the district, primarily in the city of Des Moines.
