Seth's Story: Including Students of All Abilities

Seth's Story: Including Students of All Abilities

If you spend time at McMicken Heights Elementary, chances are you will meet fourth-grader Seth Bobbitt. His laugh is contagious. His curiosity is infectious. School is his happy place.

Seth was born with Down syndrome. His family wanted a school experience where Seth could learn, play and grow alongside his peers. That's exactly what they found at McMicken Heights.

The school is one of several Highline schools implementing inclusive education, an approach where students of all abilities and needs learn and participate in the same classroom and school activities.

Students get the support and resources they need to learn and be successful directly in the classroom, rather than in segregated classrooms or schools.

Our teachers use varied and innovative teaching methods to meet the needs of every student, regardless of their learning style and abilities. All students are supported to reach their highest potential.

Inclusion benefits everyone in the class. Students learn friendship skills, problem-solving skills, positive self-image, and acceptance and respect of others.

Watch how being included is making an impact on Seth and his school community at McMicken Heights.
