We are aware of a social media trend that encourages students to intentionally damage their school-issued devices—potentially causing the devices to overheat or catch fire.
Student devices are valuable learning tools. Students are expected to use and care for them responsibly. These expectations are part of practicing good digital citizenship—something we take seriously in Highline.
This behavior may cause harm to students and school property. Intentionally damaging a device also violates our student technology use policy, and setting fires of any kind is prohibited on school property.
We encourage students not to participate in the trend and report concerning behavior to a trusted adult. We also encourage you to review our policy and procedures on technology use available on our website.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our schools safe and focused on learning.
