Standing With Our Immigrant and Refugee Families

Standing With Our Immigrant and Refugee Families

We know recent national news and public actions affecting immigrant and refugee communities may be causing fear, uncertainty and stress for many members of our Highline community. These developments impact families connected to many countries, including members of our Somali community.

To our immigrant and refugee community: you are an essential part of Highline. You are valued. You belong here.

Our schools are places of learning, care, and safety. Highline remains committed to welcoming and protecting every student, regardless of background, language, faith, or immigration status. Harassment, intimidation, or hateful behavior have no place in our schools.

Last year, our School Board unanimously approved Resolution 02-25: Our Schools, Our Promise – A Stand for Every Student. This resolution reaffirms our commitment to safe, welcoming and discrimination-free schools for every student.

Students may respond to moments like this in many ways. Support is available at school. Students can talk with their school counselor. Families can also connect with their school’s family liaison to share concerns and talk through what support may be helpful.

Families are encouraged to visit the Immigrant & Refugee resources on our website. This collection of resources is designed to support families, whether they are new to our community or have deep roots here.
