Friday, November 18, is Substitute Educators Day. Here in Highline our guest teachers are critical to providing students with high quality learning experiences when school-based teachers are absent.
Read the Highline story of just one of our 200 guest teachers, Lisa Peterson!
Lisa began substituting in 1984 and fell in love with the job.
“I have the best job in the whole world,” Lisa says. “I get to focus on the kids and teaching the lessons. Every day is different, and every day is student centered.”
She has come to know students by name, strength and need, teaching many of the same students during their journey from 7th to 12th grade. When asked what her favorite grade is, Lisa says, “Kids are my favorite grade!”
Kyle Linman, principal of Mount Rainier High School, says that Lisa shows that she believes in each student. “She walks in with a smile on her face, flexible, and ready for whatever the day brings. Her great sense of humor and engaging lessons have students looking forward to the next time they’ll see her.”
Lisa says, “I just love my job!”
Thank you to all of our dedicated guest teachers, we honor and value all you do!
