Seniors, there's still time to apply for financial aid!
The Financial aid process this year has been frustrating, to say the least, but colleges are being flexible, and money for college or training is still available. If you haven’t submitted a financial aid application yet, don’t worry—it’s not too late! Apply as soon as you can.
In Washington, there are two primary ways to apply for financial aid:
- FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): This is for U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens, covering federal and state aid.
- WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid): This option is for those unable to file the FAFSA, often due to immigration status or issues with previous federal aid.
Financial Aid Offers are Starting to Go Out.
Some colleges have started sending out financial aid award offers to applicants. It’s important to remain patient, though, as the timeline will vary among colleges. Many, especially community and technical colleges, are still working to process delayed data from the FAFSA.
You Can now Check your Status & Make Corrections.
Log into your StudentAid.gov account to check your application status. Due to this year’s FAFSA changes, confirming that your application is complete and correct is especially important. If you need to add schools, add missing information, or fix an error, now is the time.
Mixed-status Families can Now Finish their Applications.
The U.S. Department of Education is temporarily allowing parents and guardians without a social security number to immediately complete their portion of the online 2024-25 FAFSA application. They must create a StudentAid.gov account to gain access.
Remember, in Washington, WA Grant is guaranteed to eligible students—half of families can get some money for college or career training. It’s worth it to apply for financial aid!
Continue with your plans after high school and pursue your educational goals. Be sure to submit your FAFSA or WASFA. The only way to find out if you qualify is to apply.
