Even though school will be out during the August primary election, civic engagement is always in!
Here are key dates and information about the August 5 primary election, including how to register and vote, and what a primary election is. Please share it with your friends and community.
Washington’s primary election is Tuesday, August 5. King County ballots will be mailed starting July 16 and are due by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
King County Election Dates
- Ballots mailed: July 16
- Ballot drop boxes open: July 17
- Last day to register online/by mail: July 28
- In-person registration deadline: August 5 by 8:00 p.m.
- Election Day: August 5 – Ballots due by 8:00 p.m.

Washington's primary election narrows the field of candidates for partisan and nonpartisan offices ahead of the general election. Ballots may also include local resolutions and funding measures.

How to Register & Vote
Visit voteWA.gov to:
- Check your registration
- Register to vote
- Learn more about candidates and ballot measures.
You can register in person at a King County Elections vote center until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
You can vote and return your ballot as soon as you receive it. Drop it in a ballot box or mail them in -- just be sure they're postmarked no later than August 5.

Future Voters
Students must be 18 years old by Election Day, and meet other eligibility requirements, to be a registered voter.
If students are at least 16 years old, and meet eligibility requirements, they can sign up as a future voter in Washington state.
