We will develop school- and district-level instructional leadership to support more effective language learning in all classrooms PreK through grade 12.
We will support school-based leaders work on school Annual Action Plan goals through Language Learning Cadre meetings and Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
We will collaborate with other departments at the school and district levels to include language learning strategies in all PreK-12 instructional practices; ensure that biliteracy is embedded into all content areas and learning experiences.
We will increase the effective implementation of English Language Development (ELD) and Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) strategies in all PreK-12 classrooms.
We will implement a PreK-12 GLAD lead teacher model to develop lab classrooms and provide coaching and peer support for GLAD strategies in all classrooms.
We will increase the capacity of teacher leaders to support consistent and effective formative oral language assessment of English Learner students.
We will model and encourage the use of translanguaging strategies to integrate students’ home languages and cultures.
We will ensure accessibility to strong Dual Language (DL) PreK-12 programs throughout the district.
We will build a coherent K-12 Dual Language community and vision.
We will collaborate across departments to ensure alignment with the Dual Language program design.
We will deliver elementary and secondary DL Studios and GLAD demos in Spanish.
We will ensure systems and instructional practices for intervention and differentiation in Dual Language align to program design.
We will develop human capital data tools and strategies that help identify prospective teachers, leaders and instructional assistants (paraprofessionals).
We will support implementation of Dual Language at new elementary and secondary schools.
We will support leaders to facilitate school-level discussions of changing vision and culture based on Dual Language growth.
We will revise policies and procedures to guide DL placement and ensure accessibility for all families.
We will support home language learning through enrichment programs, heritage language classes and community learning opportunities.
We will develop and Launch heritage and indigenous after-school language programs for elementary students.
We will support and expand heritage language courses (Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali) in middle and high schools.
We will provide Spanish heritage classes in all comprehensive middle and high schools
Provide Vietnamese and Somali heritage classes, based on demographics and needs.
We will design, develop and implement a heritage language course framework for middle and high school students to support less-commonly taught languages.
We will implement a robust world language pathway to ensure students develop strong oral and written proficiency beginning no later than 6th grade in accordance with the student’s learning experiences.
