Our highly capable screening process will begin in early October for all students from second to fifth grades.
Students may also be nominated to participate in this testing by a teacher, family member, or community member. To nominate a student, please visit our Identification Page and submit the requested information by Friday September 24, 2021.
In early 2022, information will be shared about our identification process for the 2022-23 school year for grades 1-7.
The goal of Highline's Highly Capable Program is to provide opportunities for students to achieve a greater depth of knowledge, and in some cases, to extend their learning, to reach their full potential as scholars. We strive to provide services that meet each student's needs and capabilities and help students cultivate habits of learning that will contribute to student success in school, college, career and life.
Overview of Highly Capable Services
In Washington State, WAC 392-170-035, Highly Capable students are defined as "…students who perform or who show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments." Outstanding abilities are often observed in academic performance, creativity, and general intellect.
Highline Public Schools offers a variety of programs and models for students identified as eligible for highly capable services at no cost to families. These models vary across grade levels in order to meet the changing needs of students. Explore this section for more information about our student identification processes and program offerings.
