Highly Capable

Highline's Highly Capable identification process for the 23-24 school year is now complete. Families of newly identified students will be notified by email.

Mission

The goal of Highline's Highly Capable Program is to provide opportunities for students to achieve a greater depth of knowledge to reach their full potential as scholars. We strive to provide services that meet each student's needs and capabilities and help students cultivate habits of learning that will contribute to student success in school, college, career and life.

Highline Public Schools is committed to culturally responsive and inclusive practices. The Highly Capable Program aligns with that vision by recognizing that each of our students are unique in how they learn and by embracing learner variability as an asset that adds value to our classroom communities.

Overview of Highly Capable Services

In Washington State, WAC 392-170-035, Highly Capable students are defined as "…students who perform or who show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments." Outstanding abilities are often observed in specific academic performance, creativity, and general intellect.

Highline Public Schools offers a variety of programs and models for students identified as eligible for highly capable services at no cost to families. Explore this section for more information about our student identification processes and program offerings.
