The Highly Capable Learning Plan provides students an option to receive services at their neighborhood school in their general education classroom by their teacher. The plan may include differentiated instruction including small group support with peers and enrichment opportunities.
Teachers will look at student’s strengths and needs and set goals for them in the classroom. These goals will help your student grow in areas they currently excel in, as well as, support them in areas they need to grow. Students will participate in the classroom instruction at their current grade level.
Teachers will determine how to deliver these services to your student. You may see some of the following on your student’s plan:
Adjusted Content - Giving students more rigorous content and more challenging assignments
Curriculum Compacting - Replacing lessons content that students have mastered
Addition of Depth and/or Complexity - Student work that includes more information or problem-solving steps
Problem-Based Learning - Students learn about a subject through solving an open ended problem
Project-Based Learning - Students work to solve a real world problem or answer a complex question
Tiered Assignments - A task that is similar to the whole class with different levels of instruction
Independent Study - Students explore a topic of interest and formulate and answer questions
Learning Menus - Offering students a menu of learning tasks that support their goals
Learning Contracts - An agreed upon assignment or set of assignments that support their goals
