Highly Capable Services
Students identified as Highly Capable receive services at their neighborhood school and remain enrolled in grade-level general education classrooms or courses. Instruction is aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards and differentiated to provide appropriate challenge, depth, and complexity based on each student’s strengths and needs.
In grades 2–8, identified students are placed in cluster groups. Cluster grouping is an educational strategy in which a small group of Highly Capable students learn together within the same classroom or course. This approach helps teachers provide meaningful academic challenge and social-emotional support while maintaining a diverse learning environment. Learning alongside a diverse group of peers builds collaboration skills, supports lifelong learning, and contributes to student success.
