Funds will be included for Big Picture (grades 6-12) if critical maintenance is needed for its aging facility, while district leaders explore future facility options. This approach gives Highline time to respond to building needs now while planning thoughtfully for Big Picture’s long-term facility future.
Background
The Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) initially considered relocating Big Picture, along with another small school and two district programs, to the Southern Heights site if voters approve the bond and the site is rebuilt and modernized. Based on community feedback around location, the recommendation shifted away from that option.
Big Picture’s current access to Link light rail supports student travel to internships and other off-campus learning opportunities. Staying in its current location preserves that access.
By funding essential maintenance and addressing emergency repairs over the next few years, we gain valuable time to plan for Big Picture’s long-term facility needs.
