Site Plans

The existing site plan of Cascade Middle School, provided in June 2025, shows the layout of seven separate buildings, connected by covered outdoor walkways. Three blue half-circles on the north edge of campus indicate wetland buffers, with four of the buildings encroaching or partially built inside the wetland buffers.

The existing Cascade site, including the wetland area where buildings currently exist, is 6.7 acres; however, the building area for new construction is 6.15 acres (subtracting the wetland buffers), prior to additional setbacks or the sewer easement.

In the image above, the map legend includes the types of school spaces at the existing Cascade Middle School, as well as markings for the wetland buffers and the 10-foot-wide sewer easement.

The dashed lines for the sewer easement radiate out in three directions from south edge of the Cascade site.

1. The sewer line and easement runs north through the site, with three buildings on the west and four buildings to the east. The line touches the corners of three buildings (without 10 feet of space). 
2. The dashed line marking the sewer easement runs southwest through the Evergreen student parking lot.
3. The sewer easement line also runs to the east, bisecting the Evergreen track and field.

If Cascade were rebuilt on its existing campus:

• Cascade students would need to attend school for two years at the Olympic Interim Site in Des Moines during construction.
• The soccer practice field would be smaller than the practice field proposed for the Salmon Creek site.
• Construction at the existing Cascade site would include more complexity and less space for construction operations.
• The cost is estimated to be $44 million more than rebuilding at the nearby Salmon Creek site.
• The additional cost would mean that fewer other schools could be rebuilt or improved in the same bond and timeframe.
• The timeline for construction and opening a new school would be delayed at least a couple of years by waiting for a turn to use the Olympic Interim Site.
