Applying to College
When you apply to college, we want you to have all the tools you need. In Washington, most colleges and universities are test-optional, meaning SAT and ACT scores are not required for admission. However, you can still submit scores if you feel they strengthen your application. Focus on your high school coursework, GPA, and other experiences that demonstrate readiness for college.
Financial aid is an important part of planning for college. All students should complete either the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) to be considered for federal, state, and institutional aid. FAFSA is for U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens; WASFA is for students who are undocumented or otherwise ineligible/would like to opt out of federal aid. Both applications open on October 1. Applying early, ideally by the end of January, is recommended to maximize your aid opportunities.
Another great resource is your school’s Future Center/College & Career Office. They can help you:
- Explore college options and admissions requirements
- Learn about college visits and events
- Plan campus tours
- Find scholarships and other financial aid opportunities
