This event is geared towards interested students/non-student youth (ages 17-25) and their families to increase awareness around college and career pathways through a year of service, including: 

  • Light refreshments
  • Giveaway prizes, including gift card raffles
  • A brief presentation on City Year and what we do
  • A panel discussion feature currently serving City Year Seattle AmeriCorps members and alumni
  • The opportunity to engage with various City Year Seattle Recruitment and Admission staff and learn more about our impact in the local community

UW Medicine Neurological Surgery NIH Summer Student Program

The UW Medicine Neurological Surgery NIH Summer Student Program provides “Bench to Bedside” exposure to students seeking summer lab placements to explore basic and clinical neurosciences. Our hope is that students will be so excited by their work that they will desire to pursue an academic career in research and/or medicine. Our mission is to recruit and educate a wide spectrum of students from diverse backgrounds, including those under-represented in STEM fields, and broaden their knowledge base in the field of biomedical research, including translational, clinical and basic research, and to inspire students to pursue a career in research, medicine or allied fields, especially in Neuroscience.

PARTICIPATION INCLUDES:

  • $3200 STIPEND FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS/$2667 FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS 18+
  • EIGHT WEEK LAB PLACEMENT IN ONE OF OUR NEUROSCIENCE LABS
  • WEEKLY NEUROLOGICAL SURGERY GRAND ROUND LECTURES
  • WEEKLY NEUROSCIENCE FACULTY LECTURES

ATTENTION SENIORS! Year Up is a leadership and professional development program that combines hands-on, college-level learning with a six-month corporate internship at top companies in the Greater Seattle area. Year Up prepares low-income young adults for a career in Information Technology and provides an opportunity to further your education. After a year of intensive, hands-on training, more than 85% of graduates from Year Up have either a full-time job paying an average of $19 hour or are enrolled in college full-time.

Who:

  • 18-24 years old
  • High school graduate or GED recipient
  • Of low to moderate income
  • A U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, or have an employment authorization card
  • Available 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) for the full year of the program
  • Highly motivated to learn new technical and professional skills
  • Have not obtained a bachelor’s degree

Museum of Flight (Various Volunteer Positions)

The Museum of Flight is a non-profit organization, and relies on volunteers to give docent tours and supporting their many programs. New volunteers are required to attend a Volunteer Orientation, which is held on a monthly basis, and additional training may be required for specific volunteer assignments. Active volunteers are asked to record a minimum of 8 hours of work per month, throughout the year. Current opportunities for youth ages 14-17 are Gallery Ambassador, Pavilion Ambassador, and Museum of Apprentice Program

Various volunteer jobs are available for students 16 and up. MoPOP’s community of passionate volunteers enhance the guest experience while extending the staff’s reach. Join our team!
