3 Beverly Park Siblings Rely on Devices & Internet for Distance Learning

3 Beverly Park Elementary students share what their home space for online learning looks like, and their devices from school.

Hamza (grade 4), Salman (grade 2) and Samiya (K) attend school online this fall thanks to devices loaned out by Beverly Park Elementary School.

Their mother, Farhia Ahmed, says their internet connection was frustratingly slow in September with all three children online in Zoom classes. October is going better since they qualified for internet assistance administered through Highline Public Schools.

It’s no secret that these kids like school--even remotely. What was their favorite thing to do before going to bed this summer? Listen to Beverly Park Elementary School videos from the past year!

Farhia is proud of how well her children are coping. “The kids are doing really good learning at home,” she says. “My husband helps them in the morning. I help them in the afternoon. When it’s possible to go back to the classrooms, I don’t think they will be behind. We are doing our best, and the teachers at Beverly Park are so good. They asked us to call them after school if we need to.”

Devices and adequate internet connections support equitable access to learning at home. If approved by voters, Proposition 1, the Highline technology levy helps ensure student internet access this year and beyond. Need to get informed about the levy and what else it pays for? Visit highlineschools.org/technology-levy.

As of November 27, one week is left until ballots are due. Drop them off at a designated drop-off location or vote in person on November 3.
