Your neighborhood school offers challenging coursework with electives to your learning experience. In addition, Highline offers Choice Schools.
Choice Schools offer a variety of alternative program options, each with its own specialized focus. Schools of Choice require an application. Select schools of choice have space available in the 2023-24 school year and have reopened their application windows.
Secondary Choice Options
Highline Virtual Academy | Grades 6-12
The Highline Virtual Academy offers a flexible learning model and provides opportunities for a blend of self-paced learning and school-directed structures. It is an all-remote school. Students who thrive in independent, online learning are good candidates. Staff build relationships and engage students in social-emotional support through one-on-one experiences.
Maritime High School | Grades 9-11
Maritime High School connects students to project-based learning centered on the environment, marine science and maritime careers, and opens doors to college. The school’s STEM-focused approach allows students to spend increased time out of the classroom—learning by doing and experiencing the maritime world first-hand. The learn-by-doing approach provides engaging, professional opportunities to inspire students into career pathways and teach important life skills to help them achieve their dreams.
Waskowitz Environmental Leadership & Service | Grades 10-11
WELS is an innovative project-based program that offers an interdisciplinary, small learning community with a theme of environmental leadership and service. WELS students are active members of their learning community and serve as role models for younger students while at outdoor school. This program is located at Tyee High School.
Choice ACADEMY | Grades 6-12
CHOICE offers an extended learning experience through middle and high school years characterized by academic achievement, powerful instruction, student growth and social development. Students can participate in college level coursework, Running Start and Puget Sound Skill Center. The environment is safe, supportive, and focused on educating and preparing students for college and career.
Elementary Choice Options
Highline Virtual Elementary | Grades K-5
Highline Virtual Elementary is an online option for kindergarten through 5th-grade students and provides engaging, innovative learning experiences. Highline Virtual will be a program at Seahurst Elementary School beginning in the 2023-24 school year. The program nurtures student agency and independence to empower students to thrive in an ever-changing digital world.
