Back to the Board Room

School board meetings will be held in-person starting next month, thanks to new safety guidelines from Governor Jay Inslee. Superintendent Susan Enfield shares this news in her weekly video message, along with plans for the first day of hybrid learning and her continued appreciation of our hard-working staff.

Hello Highline. I am coming to you today from our board room here at central office in Highline Public Schools. This is a space I haven't spent much time in in recent months, but that's about to change. This week, the governor has said he will now allow for in-person board meetings with limited attendance and with all of the safety precautions in place just like we have in our school buildings. In March, we will be holding our board meetings here, while still streaming so that those people at home can watch as well. We can't wait to resume this little bit of normalcy in our lives here in Highline.

As you likely know, we continue to prepare for March 1, which is the day that we are looking forward to welcoming back our pre-K, kindergarten, and first-grade students. For many of our students, this will be their first day of school in a school building, and we are working to make that as celebratory as possible for our students, while also supporting our staff who will be in the buildings to welcome them.

I want to acknowledge that those of you who are returning in hybrid and those of you who are continuing to teach in distance learning are doing a remarkable job. I know it's hard. I know that it's become harder as we've had to make adjustments to return to hybrid, and I just want you to know that you are seen and you are valued for the work that you are doing and for the dedication that you have for our students and our families.

I thank you personally. Our families thank you. Our boards thank you, and just know that we know it isn't easy, but I know that when we see those students' faces behind their masks with the smiles that we'll see in their eyes, it's all going to be worth it.

So until I see you, which I hope will be soon from a safe distance with a mask, stay safe, stay strong, and stay healthy, and just remember, we are Highline.
