Keep Students Healthy and in School

Keep Students Healthy and in School

Why Showing Up Matters

When students miss school, they miss learning, friendships and important routines.

Missing just two days a month adds up fast. Students who attend regularly are more likely to read on grade level, graduate on time, and feel connected to school.

Missing 10% of the year—just one day every two weeks—can cause academic setbacks. On average it takes three days to catch up for each day missed.

Healthy, Present Students

Healthy students attend more, focus better, and feel ready to learn. Families play an important role in helping students stay well and show up every day. Here's how families can help:

Build Healthy Routines

  • Make sure your child gets enough sleep each night.
  • Encourage a healthy breakfast every morning.
  • Help your child stay active through play and movement.
  • Send a water bottle to school to keep them hydrated.

Practice Everyday Hygiene

  • Remind your child to wash hands often.
  • Teach them to cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Avoid sharing cups, utensils, or personal items.

Stay on Top of Wellness

  • Schedule regular doctor and dental visits.
  • Keep up with vaccines, including flu and COVID-19.
  • Plan non-urgent appointments outside of school hours.

Create a Safe, Supportive Environment

  • Talk with your child about kindness and respect.
  • Let the school know if your child needs support.
  • Encourage your child to join school activities and clubs.
