Students and families can continue to count on Highline for great-tasting, nutritious meals students love to eat every day. During the 2021-22 school year all school meals are available at no cost to all students.
This year we are experiencing challenges we have not seen before. We have had to adapt menus around supply chain shortages. Due to product availability, we may have to substitute one school favorite for another more frequently.
These challenges will likely continue. We want to let you know we’re doing everything we can to proactively address issues. Here’s what we’re doing to adjust:
We are posting weekly menus every Friday for the following week when deliveries and offerings are confirmed, but we may still have unplanned substitutions on the menu.
We have been sourcing from more local distributors to ensure availability.
Fruits and vegetables are in good supply. Please encourage students to select fruits and vegetables at breakfast and lunch. These could be fresh, roasted, canned or prepared as part of a salad bar. Each month we feature a Harvest of the Month. Butternut squash is our feature for November!
We currently have limited supplies of soy milk and lactose-free milk. Schools are working through their supplies, and these may or may not be available in your student’s school.
Utensils and Trays:
We have also had shortages of disposable utensils and food service products. We encourage students to take only what they need so we will have enough for everyone. We are using reusable trays in elementary schools.
If there’s one thing the past year and half has proven, we can do anything-- from feeding kids in cafeterias, to serving hot meals from buses and curbside, to finding new ways to stay ahead of supply chain shortages.
We are passionate about the meals we serve our Highline students and are grateful for your support of our school meal programs. We commit to serving meals that are balanced and tasty to eat, with a focus on offering a variety of fruits and vegetables.
