Keeping students safe on the way to and from school takes all of us. Please review these reminders with your child:
Bus Safety
Finding the Right Bus
- Look for the Route # posted on the side of the bus, next to the door.
- Remind your child to check the Route # before boarding.
Departure Times
- Buses leave about 5 minutes after the bell. For just the first week, buses leave about 7 minutes after the bell.
- Students should go straight to their bus so they don’t miss it.
At the Bus Stop
- Wait calmly in a single line, 10 feet (10 steps) back from the curb.
- Always stay visible to the driver and out of the “danger zone” near the wheels.
Boarding & Exiting
Boarding: Enter single file, using handrails.
Exiting: Wait for the bus to fully stop. Cross only in front of the bus after the driver signals.
Behavior on the Bus
- Be Safe: Stay seated, use indoor voices, keep hands and feet to yourself.
- Be Respectful: Follow driver directions the first time, be kind to others.
- Be Responsible: Line up quickly, know your route, and care for your belongings.
If Something Goes Wrong
If your child misses the bus or there’s a delay, school staff will call Transportation for help: 206-631-7502.
Walkers
- Use crosswalks and follow staff or crossing guards.
- Stop, look both ways, and cross only when traffic has stopped.
- Walk in pairs or groups when possible.
- Stay on sidewalks and out of parking lots and bus lanes.
A consistent message at school and at home helps students feel confident and safe. Thank you for reviewing these tips with your child.
